FOSTER FATHERS
Fathers come in all shapes and sizes, leading to the phrase “Dad bod.” But a lesser-known and much more important phrase is “Dad flipper” or more accurately, @fosterdadflipper. A badge proudly worn by Peter Mutabazi who has fostered more than forty children, Peter understands the importance of dads who teach, celebrate, and love children. With more than 400,000 in foster care in the United States alone, providing necessary support and services for all children is critical, especially foster children.
Peter’s memoir, Now I am Known: How a Street Kid Turned Foster Found Acceptance and True Worth, tells the story of his path from Uganda, becoming a foster dad, and being an international advocate for children. Noted prominently on his website are the words: “EVERY CHILD HAS POTENTIAL. EVERY CHILD DESERVES LOVE.” Having walked the streets of Kampala, Peter has a unique perspective that drives him to “ensure every child feels recognized, secured, and enveloped in a message that they are seen, heard, and known.”
On March 30, 2027, Peter’s book, A Dad Can, will be released. In collaboration with best-selling author Pat Zietlow Miller[2] and illustrator Tamisha Anthony, the heart-warming book is available for preorder through FSG for Young Readers, Target, and many other outlets. Although the primary audience is children from ages 4-9, picture books are wonderful gifts for all ages.
