LOVE, LOSS, AND WHOOPING CRANES
Everly Cade has a master’s degree in special education and is an accomplished author. I recently finished reading her first published book, The World is Mine: A Message of Love and Loss. The back cover states in part that is “a message about love and loss” through “the journey of a family of whooping cranes living their best life, living with loss and living on.” Having lost my mother twelve years ago, I realize now that a significant part of my life following her loss was not about “living on.” Although I dabbled in my own journey as an author after she passed, it took nearly six years before I started learning how to embrace her lessons and live with her loss.
For anyone struggling with loss, I highly recommend Everly’s book. On her dedication page, Everly states in part, “There is something beautiful in everyday. You just have to find it…!” Everly’s book is beautifully illustrated by Terri Einer of Einer Arts. You can learn more about Terri at https://www.terrieiner.com.
Since releasing The World is Mine, Everly has published more books, including: What Do You Do?: When the Life of a Loved One Has Come to an End; Ligers, and Tigons, and Bears, oh My;and Giver of Gifts: Nature’s Story of Hope. Everly’s website is at https://www.everlycade.com.
THIS WEEK’S ACTIVITY
Take the time to learn more about whooping cranes at The International Crane Foundation, https://savingcranes.org. Only one of two crane species native to North America, whooping cranes have a wingspan of seven to eight feet and are five feet tall. They live near shallow marshes. In 1948, the population of whooping cranes was less than 20. The current population is believed to be approximately 500.
The International Crane Foundation has a physical location in Baraboo, Wisconsin where you can see all fifteen of the world’s crane species. It is open from May 1 to October 31.
