PAWS FOR BOOKS[2]
Rescue dogs have inspired many businesses, and Lisa McCormick’s bookstore is no exception. Soon opening in historic Parkville, Missouri, Typo’s Bookstore (www.typosbookstore.com) is named after Lisa’s first rescue dog, Typo the Newshound.
Lisa, a graduate of Park University and an award-winning author and journalist said, “I want to inspire children and readers of all ages about the magic waiting for them between the pages of a good book.” In addition to hand-curated children’s books and award-winning adult titles, the store will carry literary gifts and merchandise, along with dog treats and bandanas. Plans are also underway for writing workshops, book fairs, storytime and author visits, and an online store.
A Kansas City native, Lisa has written extensively about canines, including Yikes, Your Dog’s Toys May Be Toxic; (Feb. 14, 2022) and Once Surrendered Shelter Pups Save Lives as Search-and Rescue Dogs (Oct. 17, 2024). The author of numerous children’s books for Scholastic, Capstone Press, and Rosen Publishing, Lisa’s freelance work has been featured online, in the Kansas City Star, and in several magazines, including Volleyball, Bark, Dogs for Kids, and Appleseeds.
The recipient of two Edward R. Murrow Awards, four Emmy Awards, and the Investigative Reporters and Editors Award for outstanding investigative reporting, Lisa worked as an economic crime investigator for the Johnson County, Kansas District Attorney’s Office and a press aide for a former Missouri Attorney General. Her investigative journalism has resulted in recalls of dangerous products and changes to state laws.
